Photography Competition (Maulid)

In the upcoming Maulid, Young Sultan will be organising Photography competition that open to all youth age between 13-26 years old.

The competition starts from 16 February till 6 March.

Theme: "The Muslim Family"

Descriptions

-Participants will be required to submit their digital photographs capturing the Muslim family in action.

-Family is our focus since there are so many things that we could relate to example, education, youth and even community.

-To show that family is one of the pillars to be the community of excellence. l-We could take photos on family breaking fast (fasting- 1 of the 5 pillars of Islam), a proud parents looking at their son or daughter graduating (where our prophet mentioned on the importance of education), family perform hajj, family doing community service work. It can be a mum & dad, siblings or even the whole family.

1st Prize $250

2nd Prize $150

3rd Prize $100

All winners will be notify by calls and emails.The selected photos will be display during the maulid event.

Submission format:-

-The digital files of the photographs should be saved in a CD-ROM and submitted to the mosque by the closing date during office time.

- The file size of the submissions should be between 3 and 8 Mega Bytes and should be at least 300 dpi in resolution.

-Participants are required to fill up form 1-A along with the submissions

-Submissions that do not conform to the above stipulations may be disqualified

I was browsing my email when I actually stop to reflect the short “conversations” between 2 sisters. One was in America and the other in London. The meaning of sharing & sisterhood was clearly shown here.

The sister from America was requesting some assistance to have some prayer rugs, hijabs, jilbabs for her family. About a day later, another sister from London replied to her email and she went further to ask for the sizes and preferred colour clothing. The sister from London also ensures that she will receive the parcel straight from home.

How great & beautiful life would be when we actually follows the teaching of the Quran & Sunnah.

“Allah Said: {“Indeed, the believers are brothers…”} [al-Hujurat; 10]

and {“The male and female believers are allies of one another…”}[at-Tawbah; 71]

while our Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “The believer to the rest of the believers is like the head to the body: the believer is pained at what afflicts the rest of the believers just as the head feels the pain of whatever afflicts the body.”

Firstly, i would like to say sorry because this entry should have been posted yesterday but i'm too tired to blog for YS. So, I'll post now.

Yesterday, I went to the mosque for Volunteer Pre-Retreat programme, conducted by Ustaz Khair. We had dinner before heading for maghrib. After Maghrib, ustaz started the ball rolling

Firstly, we have an Ice-breaking game, where in one group, we need to arrange our birthdates in ascending order w/o using our mouth !!! haha =D After that, Ustaz Khair talked about concepts of volunteering, definition of volunteer & so on. We even sit together to discuss as a group on how to make sure that Sultan Mosque family cooperates with one another and making sure that there's no downfall. In the man's group, i'm honoured to present our ideas to the rest. I felt nervous at the first place because i'm the only youth there. =) Well, felt relieved after presenting. =D. Then, Ustaz brief us about what's going to happen for the malacca trip

After the whole thing ended, i went home with bro rizal. Btw, to all Young Sultans out there, Please dont miss this opportunity to go for this trip. Isu belia, remaja, pemuda dan sebagainya sudah begitu sebati dalam kehidupan masyarakat kita. Seperti kita sedia maklum, zaman yang begitu gah adalah zaman remaja. Pada tika dan saat sebeginilah, belia-belia melalui pelbagai konflik akan berlaku dan mereka juga dalam pencarian. Pencarian dalam mengenali diri sendiri dan mencari identiti tersendiri. Kita dapat lihat belia-belia di luar yang mempunyai pelbagai ragam dan ‘style’. Tanpa mereka sedari, sebenarnya, mereka dalam proses mencuba satu ‘style’ ke ‘style’ yang lain.

Pada 6 July 2008 adalah Hari Belia. Maka artikel ini untuk tatapan belia-belia di luar sana. Sesungguhnya, Allah telah menjanjikan sesuatu yang istimewa bagi pemuda-pemudi yang mengikuti cara hidup yang berlandaskan syariah. Ertinya:

Hadis Abu Hurairah r.a: Nabi s.a.w telah bersabda: “Ada tujuh golongan manusia yang akan dinaungi oleh Allah di bawah naungan-Nya. Hari tersebut tidak ada naungan kecuali naungan Allah. Golongan tersebut ialah pemimpin yang adil, pemuda yang sentiasa beribadat kepada Allah semasa hidupnya, seseorang yang hatinya sentiasa berpaut pada masjid-masjid iaitu sangat mencintainya dan selalu mendirikan sembahyang berjemaah, dua orang yang saling mengasihi kerana Allah iaitu keduanya berkumpul dan berpisah kerana Allah, seorang lelaki yang diundang oleh seorang perempuan yang mempunyai kedudukan dan rupa paras yang elok untuk melakukan kejahatan tetapi dia berkata: Aku takut kepada Allah! Seorang yang memberi sedekah tetapi dia merahsiakannya seolah-olah tangan kanan tidak tahu apa yang diberikan oleh tangan kirinya dan seseorang yang mengingati Allah di waktu sunyi sehingga mengalirkan air mata dari kedua matanya.

MYSPEX 2008 - Bowling @ West Coast Recreation Centre

Today, YS were involved in MYSPEX bowling. They are a group of 5 boys which is Nazirul, sofiy,akma,akid & another boy (forget his name. sorry about that). The event started at 9.30am and ends at 1pm. There were many groups from different mosques participating and must say that they are very good in their bowling skills. They played for 1 round of games. However, our team didnt make it to the finals. Well, it is ok as long as the 5 boys enjoy themselves and make Young Sultans proud !!! Their feelings after bowling was tired but fun. They wanted to join the bowling competiton agaib for next year's MYSPEX.

Yup, that's all for the coverage. Marha Marha to the 5 boys !!! =D

Salam….yo yo yo..apa khabar semue? Hahaha..hari ini me myself n I nk kongsi sikit pasal tarikh 15 jun 2008. Nk tahu tk apa dia?? Sabar..mari kite imbas kembali kenangan itu satu pe satu..hahaha

Seperti biasa..semua berkumpul mcm budak baik. Yg lapar pi mkn dulu lepas tu smue bergerak ke IKEA tamp. Ramai org pt sana..biasa juga..kata hari ahad. Pusing2 cari benda2 yg patut sambil meriahkn lagi suasana IKEA tu..dgn dendangan suara kak faza, kak nisa, kak dayah, kak wani dan akhir sekali kak mushy..eh..kak firah. Hahaha..
Lepas da pusing2..kite smue da penat..tp masih tk puas hati..haha..so kite smue berlompat ke Courts pula. Kite mula pusingan ke dua di sana. Pusing punye pusing..sampai naik lapar semula..hahaha..

Sebenarnye dalam diam..kite ni ada plan utk seseorg. 15 jun 2008 bkn hanye tarikh utk youth muslimah ke IKEA. Tp juga utk menyambut ulang tahun kak wani kite..hehehe..dia tk tahu satu benda pun. Jadi, kite hrp2 plan berjaya.
Sebelum kite sampai kemuncak plan kite, smue telah sepakat utk menunaikn solat asar di masjid istighfar. Lepas tu terus ke tempat yg ingin dituju.

Sampai disana, entah mcm mana..da bkn muslimah outing lg..sebb 2 jejaka kite pun nk turun padang utk meraihkn hari jadi kak wani. Bro rizal n bro azhar. Kite smue berkumpul di HAWA Restoran. Macam2 kite order..ada sambal ketam, tomyam sop dan mcm2 lg..yg paling penting, kek utk kak wani kite da siapkn. Terima kasih kepd kak nisa kite..hehehe..
Okok, smue da mkn, da kekenyangan. Barulah kemuncaknye tiba, kek dibawa oleh kak dayah ke tempat duduk kite. Kak wani terkejut bangat..sebb dia tk sangka kite akn menyambut mcm tu sekali..hahaha..lalu dia pun potong keknye dan kami smue abiskn keknye dgn aman damai..hahaha..

Alhamdulilah apa yg kite plan berjln dgn lancer..mcm kerete formula one..hahaha..kak faza, dia antar smue muslimah pulang. Tk lupa juga terima kasih kepada smue yg ada kerana tlh bersama- sama menyambut ulang tahun kak wani kite..

Mass Kahwin 2008

This is my 1st time blogging at YS multiply. Harap u all dont mind i post this...

Last Sunday (8/6/08), Sultan Mosque organised first-ever Mass Kahwin, where 4 couples solemnised in one go. This is the first time such an event like this in singapore. I'm so-called the photographer for the day. I took photos from Sis Faza's Camera.

The Akad nikah was held at the back of main prayer hall. The reception was held at auditorium & MPH.Although the event was simple, the people comment that it was so grand. Everyone in the MPH (Multi-Purpose Hall) was happy. I saw the 4 couples too. What's unique about this is there's one couple, who's a chinese-muslim man married to malay-muslim lady and there's another one, a malay-muslim man married to an indian-muslim lady. So, it's somehow a multi-racial wedding. The highlights of the event is the tea ceremony, which is conducted by the parents from chinese-muslim man. This is my first time i witness the chinese tradition of tea ceremony. Btw, the MC of the day was TG, a DJ from Warna 94.2FM. The event ended around before zohor.

Kekuatan Sebuah Doa

Semasa menghadiri sesi teh tarik yang pertama, bro Mustapha ada berkongsi cerita mengenai doa yang saya rasa patut saya kongsi bersama dalam blog ini.

Bro Moose, mengatakan kalau dari sudut psikologi, doa ini semacam “self-talk”. You talk to yourself, to boost your morale. If you noticed, the obvious is from the sportsman. Beliau juga mengatakan yang kita sebenarnya beruntung. Kenapa? Ini disebabkan dalam sehari kita mempunyai sekurang-kurangnya 5 waktu untuk berdoa. Bermohon untuk kebaikkan diri sendiri dan masyarakat secara amnya. Berapa ramai ya dari kita melapangkan masa mungkin seminit dua untuk bermunajat kepada ALLAH?

Secara tidak langsung agama Islam telah mengajarkan kita bahawa dengan berdoa kita akan mampu merubahkan bukan sahaja kehidupan malah ketentuan kita. Doa adalah senjata orang beriman. We do not need to go for yoga classes to relax ourselves. Prayers and doa is sufficient for us- the physical and spiritual aspects of one life.

Kita mungkin menganggap bahawa doa ini adalah salah satu “ritual” dalam solat. Dan kita juga menganggap dua adalah jalan terakhir apabila segala usaha kita tidak menampakkan hasil. Pemikiran seperti ini salah sama sekali dan mungkin tidak keterlaluan jika saya mengatakan pemikiran di atas ini sempit.

“Dua is conversation with Allah, out Creator, our Lord and Master, the All Knowing, the All Powerful. This act in itself is of extraordinary significance. It is the most uplifting, liberating, empowering, and transforming conversation a person can ever have. We turn to Him because we know that He alone can lift our sufferings and solve our problems. We feel relieved after describing our difficulties to our Creator. We feel empowered after having communicated with the All Mighty. We sense His mercy all around us after talking to the Most Merciful. We get a new commitment to follow His path for that is the only path for success. We feel blessed with each such commitment.”

Dalam apa perkara yang kita lakukan, seharus nya kita mulakan dengan doa dan mengakhiri dengan doa juga. Di antara kedua-dua doa itu kita sertakan dengan berkat usaha kita. Kerana doa sahaja tidak mencukupi. InsyaALLAH apa yang akan kita lakukan dan kita impikan akan menjadi kenyataan.

Yakinlah bahawa tiada doa yang terlalu kecil atau besar di sisi ALLAH. Berdoalah semasa kita dalam keadaan senang mahupun susah. Berdoalah untuk diri kita, keluarga kita, sahabat kita, guru kita dan seluruh umat Islam secara amnya. Berdoalah untuk kebaikkan di dunia dan akhirat.

In the name of ALLAH, The most Gracious and most Merciful.

Why we called it teh tarik? When we want to hang out with friends, we usually ask our friends to have a drink with us. Therefore, teh tarik is chosen to be the activity name for Young Sultan gathering sessions.

First of all, I will like to thank bro Syahrizal and Warees staff for assisting in setting up the venue. Secondly to the invited speaker, Bro Mustapha Kamal who was willing to travel from Jurong and allocate some time for the short tazkirah. Last but not least, thank you to those who turned up. I am really grateful for it. Without you guys, this event will have to be postponed to a later date.

One of the intentions to have this teh tarik gathering is to strengthen the bonds among Young Sultan. Still remember the first time we had chilled out at Sultan? That was seven months back. Masya Allah, how time flies! Do we know each other well enough to stand united as one and progress together with one common tagline- “Dare to Da’wa”? I could not outline the answer for you guys. You know it better.

Today tazkirah was about self-esteem. It is best before we touch about other issues, that we brought self-esteem as our very first tazkirah. Self- esteem is more of how we view ourselves, our strengths and our weaknesses. With good self- esteem we are able to push all boundaries and everything is made possible. Let me recall and share with all of you on the analogy between life of an eagle and fish in a bowl.

Bro Mustapha shared that an eagle as we know is a strong predator. It is merciless to its prey. An eagle lifespan is up to 70 years old. That is about the same average lifespan of a human. As the eagle reached to the age of 40-45 years old, it faced aging in its life. As its beak getting longer, the eagle is depriving from eating. Its claws getting weaker and longer make it difficult to catch its prey. Its growing more feathers and this make it difficult to fly. What could the eagle do? First option is to wait to die. Second option is to go for a change and this will definitely cause pain along the way.

The eagle chooses the second option. It flies to the highest mountain. Guess what? It hit its own beak and breaks it into pieces so that it will grow a new shorter beak. It cut its own claws and pulls out its feathers. How struggling and painful the experience is. What is the reason behind all this actions? SURVIVAL! Are we willing to go such painful experience for a change in our life? It might be easy to just say yes but to undergo this entire change, are we ready for it?

Is there any other option? Yes we do. We can choose to be like the fish in the bowl. Its main routine from Monday till Sunday is to swim around the bowl, eat and sleeps. It has no vision, follow what its call fate and it is easily being replaced by a new fish after it died.

Which one will you like to be? Eagle or the fish in the bowl…

You decide what is great for you.

Nilai Sebuah Kesyukuran

Minggu lepas, saya melihat sebuah dokumentari di tv mengenai sebuah keluarga yang terpaksa bergelumang di dalam ribut salji selama 9 hari tanpa makanan dan perkakas yang secukupnya. Keluarga itu terdiri dari seorang ayah, ibu dan seorang bayi kecil yang masih menyusu.

Dapat dilihat, betapa sukar sekali untuk hidup dalam cuaca paras -17 celcius. Dengan salji di paras lutut amat payah untuk bergerak. Keluarga ini tidak berputus asa malah mereka tetap berusaha untuk bertahan dan cuba mencari jalan raya menuju ke pekan yang berdekatan. Malang sekali, setelah berjalan beribu2 batu, mereka telah tersalah arah. Mereka sepatutnya menuju ke selatan tetapi telah ke utara. Si Ibu berasa hiba dan hampir berputus asa. Pada masa itu mereka berasa hairan kenapa bayi mereka tidak menangis. Dengan rasa berdebar-debar, si Ayah membuka beg yang melindungi bayi tersebut. Alangkah lega mereka, bayi mereka masih bernyawa. Si ayah sebagai ketua keluarga terus meneruskan kecekalannya sambil berkata kepada isterinya,” Marilah kita teruskan usaha kita & jangan berputus asa”.

Mereka bertiga kemudian berpatah balik menuju ke arah selatan. Dalam perjalanan tersebut, mereka berhadapan dengan rebut salji yang amat buruk sekali. Mereka terpaksa melalui jalan berdekatan dengan pohon-pohon yang hanya tinggal rangka. Esok harinya, si isteri tidak dapat meneruskan perjalananya. Kakinya terlalu lemah. Si suami kemudian cuba mencari gua untuk berteduh sementara waktu. Di dalam gua tersebut, si suami bercadang untuk meninggalkan keluarganya untuk meminta bantuan. Si isteri berasa amat hiba & khuatir bahawa mereka akan berpisah untuk selamanya. Dengan berat hati, si suami berpisah dengan keluarganya. Beliau teruskan perjalanan tanpa menoleh kebelakang. Semasa melihat situasi ini, teringat saya tentang kisah Nabi Ibrahim a.s. yang terpaksa meninggalkan isteri & anaknya di padang pasir yang panas dan gersang yang tidak mempunyai apa2. Sama situasi, yang berbeza hanya zaman & keadaan.

Si isteri hanya dapat bertawakal & tidak dapat mengagak apa yang terjadi esok hari. Adakah mereka akan masih hidup ataupun ini lah saat-saat terakhir mereka. Kasih sayang seorang ibu terhadap anaknya melebihi lautan yang menyeliputi bumi ini. Si ibu tersebut mengambil sebuku ais yang kemudian di masukkan ke mulutnya untuk dicairkan. Kemudian beliau menitis ais yang telah cair itu kepada mulut anaknya sebagai sumber air. Teringat lagi saya kepada kisah Siti Hajar r.a. yang berlari ke arah dua bukit yang berdekatan untuk mencari air untuk anaknya.

Selang 2 hari kemudian, si isteri terdengar bunyi jentera. Rupa-rupanya orang kampung datang untuk menyelamatkan mereka. Mereka diberi sebuah oren dan si isteri berkata sambil mentitiskan air mata, “ Alangkah nikmatnya dapat makan sebuah oren ini & terima kasih kepada anda semua. Terima Kasih.”

Si isteri dan bayi kecil nya di bawa ke hospital di mana mereka dapat bertemu kembali dengan si suami. Akhirnya, kedua-dua jari kaki si isteri dan si suami terpaksa di potong disebabkan darah yang telah beku.

Tiada kata yang terucap hanya gerakan mata dan rasa bersyukur kerana dapat bertemu kembali sebagai satu keluarga.

Cerita ini membuatkan saya terfikir apakah cukup rasa syukur saya terhadap Allah selama ini. Dikurniakan negeri yang aman, dikurniakan pekerjaan yang baik, dikurniakan keluarga yang penyayang. Ditimpa sedikti kesusahan, saya sudah mengeluh. Apakah telah cukup rasa syukur saya selama ini? Marilah sama-sama kita bermuhasabah diri tentang nilai sebuah kesyukuran.

What would the Prophet (saw) do?

This is the excerpt that i received in one of my email composed by bro Faruq. I like to share with you guys.

I was disappointed at the audacity of the Danish press to reprint the controversial Prophet Muhammad (saw) cartoon.

I'm sure most Muslims are, but we need to take a step back and ponder upon the question:

"What would the Prophet (saw) do?"

During his life, the Prophet (saw) faced much worse abuse and humiliation. Never did he show any ill intent on those who did the nasty things towards him, instead he showered on them his love and mercy - evident proof that he truly is a mercy to the worlds.

A short example would be the old woman who used to throw rubbish at the Prophet (saw) whenever he used to pass by her house. He did not show any anger or annoyance and would walk by silently. This happened daily. When one day the Prophet (saw) passed by and found that no rubbish was thrown, he was surprised and asked her neighbour about her well-being. He was told that the old woman isn't in good health. The Prophet (saw) then proceeded to visit the old woman. When she saw him, she was afraid that the Prophet (saw) was going to exact his revenge on her for what she has been doing.

However, he assured her that he was there to check on her and attend to her needs. She was greatly moved by this kind gesture and love from the Prophet (saw) that she became a Muslim at once.

This is just one of the many incidents of how the Prophet (saw) reacted to people who mocked and humiliated him.

Sempena tahun baru Masehi & Hijrah ini,ramai diantara kita mempunyai resolusi yang inginkan kehidupan yang lebih baik pada tahun ini. Tidak terlalu lewat bagi Young Sultan untuk mengucapkan Selamat Tahun Baru kepada semua. :)

Saya juga ingin kita semua perhatikan sebuah puisi tentang ilmu,cara pencariannya, cara pengambilannya dan bagaimana menilai serta mempertimbangkannya. Setiap hari kita berhadapan dengan informasi, baik dari media massa mahupun dalam kelas. Saya menginginkan kita semua mempunyai pandangan yang kritis sebelum kita boleh menerima sesuatu informasi yang baru kita perolehi itu. Cuba perhatikan puisi dibawah ini:-

Tidak jatuh martabat kita jika bertanya kepada
yang a’lamu
Pepatah kita, “Malu bertanya sesat jalan”, lupakah

A Brother Like That

Shuaib received an automobile from his brother as a Eid present. On Eid day when Shuaib came out of his office, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it. "Is this your car, Uncle?" he asked. Shuaib nodded. "My brother gave it to me for Eid." The boy was astounded.

"You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn't cost you nothing? Boy, I wish…" He hesitated. Of course Shuaib knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the lad said jarred Shuaib all the way down to his heels. "I wish," the boy went on, "that I could be a brother like that." Shuaib looked at the boy in astonishment, then impulsively he added, "Would you like to take a ride in my automobile?" "Oh yes, I'd love that."

After a short ride, the boy turned and with his eyes aglow, said, "Uncle, would you mind driving in front of my house?" Shuaib smiled a little. He thought he knew what the lad wanted. He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big automobile. But Shuaib was wrong again. "Will you stop where those two steps are?" the boy asked. He ran up the steps. Then in a little while Shuaib heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. He was carrying his little crippled brother. He sat him down on the bottom step, then sort of squeezed up against him and pointed to the car.

"There she is, uncle, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Eid and it didn't cost him a penny. And some day I'm gonna give you one just like it…then you can see for yourself all the pretty things in the Shop windows that I've been trying to tell you about."

Shuaib got out and lifted the boy to the front seat of his car. The shining-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began a memorable holiday ride. That Eid, Shuaib learned what the Rasul-Allah meant when he had said: "love for your brother what you love for yourself".

Marilah kita sama-sama renungkan petikan dibawah ini yang saya tukil dari kenyataan S.S Dr Asri, Mufti Besar Perlis.

"Masyarakat hendaklah memikirkan kesan setiap aktiviti secara masak atau matang. Bagi seorang muslim, penglibatannya dalam apa-apa aktiviti pun, hendaklah dilihat kepada persoalan-persoalan berikut;

1. Apakah tujuan sesuatu aktiviti dan gerakan itu dilakukan?
2. Apakah nilaian tindakan tersebut di sisi al-Quran dan al-Sunnah?
3. Apakah kesannya terhadap umat Islam dan manusia keseluruhan jika dinilai secara adil dan ilmiah?

Janganlah kita sendiri tidak faham akan tujuan kita melainkan menjadi pengikut semata. Apakah tindakan atau cara yang kita ambil mendapat keizinan syarak dalam ertikata lain tidak bertentangan dengan ajaran Islam yang sebenar?. Juga adakah memberikan kesan yang baik kepada umat Islam? ".

Mari kita mengerakkan minda kita & bertanya kepada diri kita beberapa soalan di atas yang saya rasa amat sesuai untuk kita gunakan sebagai panduan dalam kita mengendalikan aktiviti-aktiviti Young Sultan pada masa akan datang.

On 21 – 22nd September, Mazza Gerberra with the collaboration of Sultan Mosque, Hasanah Mosque, Assyafaah Mosque and Ngee Ann Poly Muslim Society with the support of Central Singapore Community Development Council turned Camp iFast into reality.

iFast is a camp targetting Non-muslims with the intention of enabling them to experience Ramadhan, fasting and our Islamic beliefs. It is also a camp for the Muslim youths out there to learn more about their faith and also not forgetting the fun and interesting aspects of Ramadhan.

21st September, at 6 pm the participants of Camp iFast registered at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Iftar was done with the 2 female non-Muslim youths experiencing their first “iftar”. Maghrib prayers was then observed. After Prayers, an ice breaking session with a game of throw the balls and introduce yourself was done. Then a game of guys versus gals was carried out, seeing which team can arrange themselves according to their names in alphabetical order, accurately and without speaking. After most of the participants were introduced to one another, individual teams were then formed through the numbers given to them. So no one had the same team with their friends but random strangers.

The teams were given time to think of a group name. They were then briefed on the heritage walk that will be done and also on the journal that they would be writing throughout the camp. The team names created were : Whatever Malapetaka, BGA ( Be Good for Allah ), Lepakz Gang (LPG), Avitensia and Avicenna. Then the groups had to creatively create their own flag representing them. After that Isyak and terawih prayers was done, and then it was off to Sultan Mosque.

At Sultan Mosque, the participants settled down at the multi-purpose hall. Sitting in their own groups, they were further briefed on heritage walk, there was a change of plans. Instead of walking all the way to esplanade, the teams were given the task of walking to the various mosques and historic religious schools around the area. They had to take group photos of the heritage sites and also draw the logo of those sites. The purpose of the Night/Heritage Walk was to allow the participants to inculcate a sense of appreciation as well as to gain more knowledge about the heritage sites. It also served the purpose of appreciating the calmness of the nights of Ramadhan. Then it was back to Sultan mosque for rest till 4.30 am.

Sahur was provided and everyone ate together, it was also the beginning of the non-Muslims experiencing a day fasting starting with the pre-dawn meal. After subuh prayers, the participants were given rest till 8.00 am, after which the educational activity Sirr Musafir ( secrets of the nomad ) was done.

The educational activity allowed the participants to enjoy playing different type of games namely agricultural, tradiational, sports, Basic Military Training (BMT) and art at the various checkpoints while fasting.

Basically, participants had to search for fruit shaped plastic toys around the mosque for the agricultural checkpoint, play “gasing”, five stones, and passing the light plastic ball at traditional checkpoint, play capteh for sports checkpoint, do a shuttle run for BMT checkpoint and write the word “Ramadhan” as a group using only one pen with 4 strings attached to the marker at the art checkpoint.

After Sirr Musafir , the participants then headed to Harmony centre at An-Nahdhah Mosque where the non-Muslim participants got to know more about the five pillars of Islam and the articles of faith. The male Muslim youth also got to know more about the hijab and why the Muslim sisters wear it. It was also an eye opener for the participants as they learn more about Islamic architecture around the world as well as some Islamic histories and arts.

After the harmony centre visit, the participants headed back to Sultan Mosque for a dialogue session with Ustaz Bani Ali from Darul Arqam. The session was very informative. Ustaz shared with the participants on how Ramadhan came about as a month in Islam, on how the command for fasting was sent to prophet Musa Peace be upon him. Then he gave us tips on how to make use of Ramadhan to be good muslims/human beings. He shared with us some historical aspects of Ramadhan and the success that the Muslims attained because of Ramadhan, like the battle of badr and the success of Salahuddin Al Ayubbi against the crusaders during the holy month.

The participants then had Iftar at the mosque with the public. After Maghrib prayers, the participants had a debrief before certificate and prize giving ceremony was done. The Muslim participants congratulated the non-Muslim participant as she managed to fast one whole day eventhough she had gastric. Her first time experience of the camp was a fun and informative one as initially before she joined the camp, she had no idea on what Ramadhan and fasting is all about. She was glad she attended the camp as she now knew more about the muslim faith and culture.

The participants then bade farewell with each other and headed home.
